A Note From Your Instructor

Rubertha Taylor

Hello, everyone:

There is a good chance you did not end up here by accident.

At some point in your life, you used to draw. Or maybe you wanted to.

Then life got busy. You had more responsibilities. You started taking care of other people and putting your own interests to the side.

Little by little, drawing became something you used to do. But the interest never truly left. It just got pushed aside.

I see this pattern all the time. Many people want to start drawing again, but they do not know where to begin. They sit down to draw, but their attention gets pulled somewhere else. Or drawing feels harder than they expected.

They start, but they do not finish. That is not because they lack talent. It is usually because they have never been shown a clear process that makes sense and can be repeated.

I have spent more than 25 years as a teacher, and I am here to help you. You do not need experience to begin. You just need a clear path and someone to guide you step by step.

That is why I created this program. I want to help you take a meaningful photo and turn it into a finished drawing you can keep, give as a gift, or hang on your wall.

I also want to help you slow down, make space to create, and reconnect with a part of yourself that may have been quiet for a long time.

You do not have to be perfect. You just have to start.

I will guide you the rest of the way.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Rubertha

Questions You May Be Asking

Here are a few thoughtful answers to help you feel confident before you begin.

Can I really do this if I have never drawn before?

Yes. This program was created for beginners. You do not need previous experience in realistic drawing. You will be guided step by step through a thoughtful process that helps you create a portrait with beauty, likeness, and meaning.

What if I miss a live session?

That is completely okay. Every live session is recorded, so you can return to it when your schedule allows. This program is designed to support real life while still helping you move steadily toward a finished portrait.

How much time should I plan for each week?

Set aside about two hours each week for the live class and about 30 minutes for practice between sessions. That is usually enough to make strong progress without feeling rushed. The goal is not pressure. The goal is steady, meaningful work.

Will I complete a portrait by the end of the program?

Yes. The program is designed to help you complete one finished portrait from start to finish. By the end, you will not only have a completed piece, but also a process you can return to whenever you want to create another meaningful drawing.

What if I am someone who starts things but does not always finish?

You are not alone. That is one reason this program is built with structure, support, and accountability. You are not left to figure everything out by yourself. You are guided each step of the way so that your portrait does not remain an unfinished idea, but becomes a finished piece you can keep.

Will I receive feedback on my work?

Yes. Personal feedback is an important part of this experience. You will be able to ask questions, share your progress, and receive guidance that helps you strengthen your drawing with more clarity and confidence.

Is this more like a course or a class?

It is a blend of both. You will begin with a short set of pre-recorded lessons that teach the foundations, then continue into live sessions where you receive guidance, feedback, and support as you work on your portrait.

Can I choose who I draw?

Yes. You will create your portrait from a photo that is meaningful to you. Many students choose to draw a child, parent, grandparent, spouse, or another loved one. The goal is to create a portrait that holds personal value and can be treasured for years to come.

How is this different from watching free YouTube tutorials?

Free tutorials can be helpful, but they often leave you to sort through the process alone. In this program, you are guided with intention. You will have a clear path, live feedback, and ongoing support so you can create something deeply personal instead of feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unfinished.

Why create a portrait by hand instead of ordering one?

Because creating it yourself makes it even more personal. This experience is more than receiving a finished piece. It is the joy of creating something meaningful with your own hands, something that reflects both the person you love and the care you gave in making it.

What materials do I need to get started?

The materials are simple, beginner-friendly, and easy to find. At a minimum, you will need smooth drawing paper, an HB pencil, a kneaded eraser, and a blending tool.

Paper: Bristol Smooth

Pencil: HB

Blending tool: microfiber towel, blending stump, or Q-tip
